ThruDark Supports "Project Fire & Ice"

Four veterans take on a 500km trek through Arctic Sweden for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity.

We're proud to be sponsoring fellow veterans Jason "Foxy" Fox, Aldo Kane, Brian Wood MC and Karl Hinett, with extreme cold weather clothing and equipment for their 500km arctic ultra across Swedish Lapland.

About Project Fire & Ice

"Project Fire and Ice is a new fundraising adventure for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity.

Four famous veterans - Karl Hinett, Brian Wood (MC), Jason "Foxy" Fox and Aldo Kane - are taking on a 500 kilometre Arctic Ultra, through the snow covered forests of Swedish Lapland in March 2025.

This is an event that only the most dedicated of long-distance adventurers can take on... and so the perfect day out for our team of veteran soldiers and marines turned marathon runners and adventurers." - Project Fire & Ice

What is the Arctic Ultra?

This Arctic Ultra takes place on snowmobile trails in Swedish Lapland, starting and finishing in the small town of Överkalix.

The 500km Ultra race is divided into two stages, the first of 185km, the second of 315km. Following these routes the team will cross twice into the Arctic circle - the land of the midnight sun.

The course can take up to two weeks to complete, by foot or on skis, and many don't make it. It is a test of extreme endurance set against the harsh beauty of snow-covered forests and icy lakes.

Meet The Team

Foxy joined the Royal Marines at the age of 16 and went on to serve in the Special Boat Service where he served a total of 20 years for his country.

Aldo Kane

Aldo Kane is a World Record breaking extreme adventurer and the epitome of the meaning 'Tested Beyond Endurance'. Aldo started his career in the Royal Marine Commandos and proceeded to become one of the youngest Snipers in the UK armed forces. Aldo spent 10 years in total operating around the globe in all environments including war in the Middle East.

Brian Wood MC

Brian Wood MC is a highly decorated former British Army soldier, renowned for his extraordinary bravery and leadership during his military service. Awarded the Military Cross for his exemplary courage in the face of enemy fire during the Battle of Danny Boy in Iraq, Brian's actions have become emblematic of heroism and dedication.

Karl Hinett

Karl joined the Staffordshire Regiment in 2003 and deployed on Op Telic 6 to Basra City in 2005 at the age of 18. Towards the end of this tour he was deployed to what became the Al Jameat Riots, where his Warrior vehicle was hit by multiple petrol bombs. Karl sustained 37% burns to his face, hands, arms, legs and stomach. In places the skin was almost burnt to the bone. It took five years of surgery to rebuild Karl, having had 16 operations and clocking up over 100 hours on the operating table. During this time Karl found motivation, and wanted to challenge life - to use the past as experience and manage change in a positive way.
